Little toddler bed encyclopedia - What cots are there ?

The most common form is certainly the single bed for children. This is a classic bed. Usually, the single beds can be supplemented with drawers, fall-out protection or a backrest.

Extremely popular are also the bunk beds. Sometimes also called day beds or bed sofas. The backrest is characteristic here. Opposite the entrance side, there is a kind of railing that protects the bed optically and also factually. If it is placed against an outer wall, the backrest provides more distance. The bunk bed feels more closed and exudes more protection and cosiness. With matching textiles, it becomes a sofa bed during the day and invites you to linger.

Block beds are a variant of bunk beds. There are usually containers or storage space underneath them. This results in the log beds being raised. This makes them unique and very individual.

Half-height beds are a good alternative to classic loft beds. They convey the feeling of "sleeping on top" and offer storage space or a place to snuggle up in the space below the sleeping surface. They are not as high, however, and thus offer more safety and more accessibility. Access is via a ladder. Here you will find your toddler bed half-high.

High beds for children are higher than the half-high beds and accordingly offer more space under the bed. The accessories are usually designed accordingly. For example, the space can be used as a workstation. Loft beds are particularly suitable for confined spaces.

Bunk beds or bunk beds offer sleeping space for two children. These are placed one above the other. Many manufacturers have now started to make bunk beds divisible. It can then be converted into two single beds if necessary. Bunk beds are indispensable when two children sleep in one room, for holiday homes or room concepts in which the playroom and bedroom are separated

Padded beds for children are a wonderful variant of single beds and accordingly popular with our customers. The beds have a cosy and homely feel and appear softer. The textile cover combined with the upholstery provides visually and also factually for more comfort.

Metal beds for children are almost exactly the opposite, but no less beautiful. They are usually reduced and convey a nostalgic style that sometimes also has a hint of industrial design in it. Metal beds can also be very playful if they are richly decorated. Overall, however, they appear lighter and more transparent, because little is done with surfaces.

Play beds for children usually have a theme. This is translated by the design. In most cases, however, different textiles help to turn the bed into a knight's castle, a castle or a sailing boat.

What size is a children's bed?

When it comes to size specifications for Beds, we usually talk about mattress dimensions. This keeps the beds and especially accessories such as slatted frames and mattresses comparable and definable. Because these measurements are standards. The second status is the length. This is almost always 2 metres. Differentiations and character mostly result from the different width of the beds.

The most classic size for the bed is 90 x 200 cm. Almost all single beds come in this size. In exceptional cases, the single bed is also made in the size 100 x 200 cm. However, this is rather the exception.

If a lot of space is needed or the feeling of comfort is to be increased, cots in 120 x 200 cm size are also available. If the children's room yields this space, this is a nice alternative.

From the 140 x 200 cm size, you slowly enter the realm of double beds. There is certainly room for two children here if you do not want to resort to bunk beds.

All sizes are standards. This means that there are also matching slatted frames and mattresses.

What accessories are available for cots?

On the one hand, there are functional accessories that are installed with the bed.

- Slatted frames: Not all manufacturers deliver their beds with slatted frames. If they do, in most cases it is a roller slatted frame. You can find high-quality frame slats here in the Internet shop. All dimensions according to standards and therefore fit.

- children's mattresses: No less important is the right mattress for your child. Remember that it spends most of its life in the immediate vicinity of the childrens mattress. Quality and testing for harmful substances are important features here.

- Fall-out protection: An absolute must for higher beds and an option for lower beds if your child is still getting used to a "big bed". The fall-out protection prevents accidental falling out during sleep. All manufacturers offer matching railings for their models.

- Bed drawers: A great idea if your child has overnight guests. Because then the bed drawer can be converted into a guest bed with a matching mattress. Alternatively, the drawer can be used as additional storage space for toys or bedding. Some manufacturers offer different versions.

But there are also a number of decorative elements and textiles that can complement a bed. The choice here is almost limitless.

- Day blankets: During the day, the bedspread is placed over the bed along with the bedding. In no time at all, you have a cosy and comfortable place to stay. In addition, the entire room looks directly tidier and protection against dirt is also directly included.

- Canopies: The visual decoration provides more cosiness and security. The canopy separates the bed from the rest of the children's room and creates a cuddly den.

- Curtains are mostly used for half-height beds and loft beds for children. This is because they help to close off the space below the bed. This way you get a view protection when the space is used as storage space. Or the cuddle den becomes even cosier.

What material are cots made of?

The vast majority of our beds are made of MDF board, solid wood or a mix of materials. Mdf has the advantage of a higher dimensional stability and a smooth surface. The surface is mostly oiled or lacquered.

In which colours is the cot available?

The colours for cots are just as varied as the shapes, designs and materials. Nevertheless, there are classics that are always popular.

  1. White cots: White beds have a restrained effect and make the children's room appear brighter and thus larger. They are not in the foreground and thus appear restrained and elegant. In addition, a toddler bed in white can be combined in many ways with accessorise uk and textiles. Because together with white, every other colour looks good and every tone comes into its own particularly well. Accordingly, the range of cots in white is large.

  2. Wood & white: This combination in cots wood white enjoys ever greater popularity. Natural tones are mixed with white. Usually it is the legs of the children's beds that are made of solid wood and then combined with white lacquered surfaces. The combination looks very noble and individual. The white components come into their own and the natural-coloured details make the toddler bed look very individual.

  3. Grey children's beds: The toddler bed in grey is also experiencing a rebirth. The colour looks very elegant and can also be beautifully combined with coloured textiles. The range is very wide. Everything is represented from light grey to anthracite. cots in grey are therefore a good alternative for all those who like it a little "modern".
